Katsu Curry at Curry Zen, Las Vegas USA

Katsu Curry $8.95
In Berkeley, I think Muracci's has pretty good curry with their fried katsu (chicken) and tonkatsu (pork cutlet). In Las Vegas, I found that Curry Zen is another nice spot for a comfortable meal of Japanese curry rice.

I ordered a Katsu curry rice plate, which is great! The katsu is fried with thin layer of batter (that doesn't detach from the meat!) it is crispy outside, yet tender inside. The curry I got is non-spicy, which obviously you can adjust the level of spiciness you want from the menu below.

level of spiciness!
Locating inside Chinatown of Las Vegas Main Strip, Curry Zen is one of the popular Japanese restaurants around the area. (Of course, there were a few other famous ramen restaurants too, but their lines are pretty long... >_<)

Since this place specializes in Japanese curry, they wrote down a list of spices that they put in their curry. You can check out the spices they use on their website HERE. When ordering, staff also asked me specifically if I have allergy towards milk too.

The katsu curry rice is delicious and very "comfortable" to eat. For me, my skin is easily irritated by the food I eat. Usually, I try to avoid over-processed, fried, and "extreme" food like curry. But I feel like the curry is very easy to go down. The fried chicken doesn't feel oily at all. It tastes great with or without the curry sauce.

Katsu Curry! Yum!
Although the kitchen is pretty open, (you can see chefs cooking from where I sit) I asked the staff if it was okay to take a photo of the kitchen as well.

Kitchen Staffs
Overall, the experience is smooth from the time I entered the restaurant. They have 3-4 Japanese servers who are all very nice with great smiles at all times. The curry takes only around 5-10 minutes to prepare and bring to your table. Most importantly, the curry is excellent and delicious! I highly recommend Curry Zen if you are craving for some authentic Japanese curry near the area!

  1. Such an unassuming restaurant from the outside, I might walk right past it. I've never been to a restaurant that just specializes in curries. Ususally it's a Japanese or Chinese restaurant that ALSO does curry. So maybe I've never had REAL good curry. Who knew there were so many different kinds? Thanks, hope to go to Vegas soon and try it.

  2. The bar staff at this place was professional and their drinks ensured us a fun night in the city. I can't wait to go back. Most of the negative elements of going to a more popular place are avoided here; the staff at venue New York was really mature and respectful.

  3. Tickets usually sell out fast, therefore make sure you know where to go when booking Vienna opera tickets for 'Die Fledermaus'. .... There are several New Year's Eve parties going on in Vienna every year, among them the Cirque Rouge , Volksgarten and Cafe Leopold parties which are my favourites. magic shows

  4. I am so ignorant when it comes to Japanese food! I like tempura and teriyaki and a few other things... I'm learning so much! I didn't even know that curry was normal in Japanese food! The restaurants I've been to obviously haven't been very authentic, lol.
