Umami Burger at Umami, San Francisco USA

Umami Burger: parmesan frico, shiitake mushroom, roasted tomato, caramelized onions, Umami house ketchup
Tonight, I tried the umami burger with medium rare steak. It is quite tasty with the Umami house ketchup, which is rather savory than sour. Overall the burger blends very well with all the veggies, especially the roasetd tomatoes.

Umami is a Japanese word 旨味 that directly translated as "pleasant savory taste." Inspired by the "umami" flavor, founder Adam Fleischman opened Umami burger restaurant chains across the United States. There are multiple Umami Burger restaurants in the Bay Area. I visited the one located on Union Street San Francisco. There was a waiting time of around 15-30 minutes for the Saturday dinner. Once I was seated, here's the menu.

Menu
umami ketchup, jalapeño mayo, Garlic ranch, and spicy sauce
If you order fries or onion rings, you will be served with the 4-dipping-sauce: Umami ketchup, jalapeño mayo, Garlic ranch, and spicy sauce. (photo above) For the medium rare burger, it really has the UMAMI flavors all over. It is not sweet, sour, spicy, bitter, or any type of flavors you can describe. The entire burger is just very tasteful and savory, that includes all the shiitake mushroom, roasted tomato, and caramelized onions. The only down-side is that it is stacked very tall, and I have difficulty biting the entire burger at once.
