As many of you already know, Matcha 抹茶 is Japanese green tea powder. It has so many health benefits and it is very easy to make at home. That's why I love Matcha a lot! I recently tried a brand called Matcha Wellness. I have both the Organic Matcha Green Tea Powder, Ceremonial type and Superior Culinary type. Let's see how they turn out!

When I first got my matcha, they were securely packed with lots of paper padding. I always appreciate extra padding from seller because I see most postal workers handle packages with not much care :(

For the superior culinary matcha, it is obviously for cooking and making something more interesting like juices, smoothies, protein shakes, lattes, desserts, baked goods, etc. There is a recipe on the package that teaches you how to make coconut matcha smoothie. You can also find the expiration date, which for me I still have around 11 months to play around with my matcha recipes. ^^

Cold Matcha 

But here, I just wanted to try it in a pure form. For one glass of cold matcha, I used 2 teaspoons of matcha powder. I first mixed it with some warm water (around 1/4 cup) to dissolve the powder as much as I can, and then add cold water up to the rest of the cup. It is surprising not bitter. It is completely fine for me to drink it without any desserts or sweets.

As you can see, the powder is finely grounded and its color is bright green. The matcha is aromatic as I opened the package. It is easy to re-seal the package for convenient storage.

The packaging for this ceremonial matcha is a lot more secured. First you need to open the can's lid. Then, open another layer of easy-to-open lid, and finally open the aluminum bag to get the matcha powder.

From the smell of this matcha, it is obviously a lot more heavier with more potent aroma than the "superior culinary" matcha we tried before.

Although I am not a matcha expert, I know that you are not supposed to dilute matcha, especially for higher quality or ceremonial type of matcha. So I just added 1 teaspoon of match powder and a 1/3 cup of hot water. Stir until it's dissolved. (it's best to use the traditional bamboo whisk, but I don't have one now...)

Unfortunately, I didn't have a bamboo whisk so I just end up using a spoon to stir as much as I can to dissolve the powder. I now have a 1/3 cup of matcha.

From the way I make this drink, I understand it is totally amateur, but this hot matcha already tastes a lot more stronger. I feel like I need something sweet to go with as well, I wished I had some sweet red bean dessert. Another interesting fact I realized is that there is this rich creaminess that you don't get from the previous Matcha.

Don't let it sit for too long, drink it when it's still hot! ^^
